Who Is the Best KC Chief Ever? (Players Only)

There is a long history of great Kansas City Chiefs.

Regardless if they started there or not, Joe Montana could be a consideration, Marcus Allen played in KC as well.

Christian Okoye demanded attention from opposing defenses, as did Larry Johnson, Priest Holmes, as does KC's current RB Jamaal Charles.

"Defense wins championships..." is a motto in the NFL, and however you feel about this motto, I am going to name a few dominant defensive players that have played in a Kansas City jersey, and one of them, or not, may be considered the "Greatest Chief ever"

Willie Lanier - A gifted linebacker from the 60's may come to mind; Bobby Bell (LB), another one of Kansas City's greatest players may come to mind; as well as Neil Smith, who may be the most dominate DE ever to play in Kansas City may also come up during any NFL conversation.

However, the greatest player in Chiefs' history could be an unfortunately short-lived linebacker from Alabama.

Drafted fourth overall during the 1989 NFL Draft, Derrick Thomas played 11 seasons with the Chiefs, after earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Earning Pro Bowl honors for his rookie season, Thomas later went on to be named to the Pro Bowl 9-times all together.

During his 10 year career, Thomas recorded 126.5 sack, ranking him 12th all-time in NFL history - more importantly, he still holds the record for QB sacks in one game (7, during the 1990 season).

Thomas also added to his resume, the fact that he is included as one of only 25 NFL players to achieve 100 or more sacks - Today, he is still ranked fifth all-time in Chiefs' history with 649 career tackles.
