Mail Order Shopping

Consumers planning on purchasing items/products, on line, should be aware of fraudulent mail order companies.

Before ordering
  • Read the catalog/advertisement thoroughly
  • Review important facts about the products – Relying on pictures alone, may cause issues; check for specifics, including dimensions, weight, as well as color
  • Review the history of the company
  • Search for guarantees, warranties, as well as specific times as to when products are shipped as well as received.

Take Precaution
  • Be cautious of companies which only provide a PO Box, instead of a street address
  • Keep records – Copy the order blank as well as personal checks, as well as the name/address of the company purchased from and the order number.
  • Never send cash through the mail.

Canceling an Order
  • If a revised shipping date is missed, the consumer has a continuing right to cancel
  • If a shipping delay is more than 30 days, the consumer must give expressed written consent to the delay.
  • As a consumer paying by C.O.D. You have the right to stop payment if the received merchandise is unsatisfactory – Pay all C.O.D. Orders by check.

When Canceling an Order
  • A refund must arrive within 7 business days of cancellation
  • The company must adjust the consumer's account within one billing cycle, if purchase was made with credit.
  • If any issue occurs, contact the merchant as well as the credit card company
