What does Christmas mean to you; does it mean seeing your family, spending time with friends, enjoying the snow in certain areas, time off work, or an abundance of presents?
Christmas is overdone; I seen a commercial about getting ready for the holidays in September; who really thinks about Christmas in September, well toy companies, electronic businesses, car companies, and jewelers do. Christmas is more commercialized than ever, is this the message we want to send to our children?
Christmas has lost its value because presents/gifts have taken over the true meaning of Christmas. Black Friday kicks off the shopping season attracting thousands of crazed shoppers with one thing on their mind, to make their children happy; some may view it as buying their children's affection; some may view it as pacifying their children, I view it as we need a do-over.
I think we should concentrate more on what is important; yes, I understand that everyone enjoys receiving gifts and we all look forward to the holidays, but are we looking forward to getting that new plasma TV, that new jewelry, or are we content with seeing and catching up with our families?
Holidays should be a celebration of families, a celebration of seeing those you do not always see, and, without getting into religious preferences, holidays should be a time to honor whomever you feel appropriate. So, we should put as much focus on who we are going to spend the holidays with, as we do on our purchases throughout the year.
Make sure you know what your interpretation of the holidays are; don't be afraid to celebrate them as to your likings. We do not all have to follow the holiday rush; take time to enjoy them.
Happy Holidays to all and may your New Year be bright.
